Meridian Medical is pleased to announce a new charitable endeavour that will see the company actively donating essential items and supporting the work of the Littlehampton & District Food Bank on an ongoing basis.
The company recently made its first delivery of essential goods to the charity, when managing director James Fenton and two staff members, Su Galleymore and Teresa Hall, dropped off 300 blankets
“We have chosen to support the Littlehampton & District Food Bank as it is a charity at the heart of our local community.” explains managing director, James Fenton. “Meridian has always been based in Littlehampton and many of us, the owners as well as the staff, are from and live in the local area.
“We all know that winter can be tough and not everyone has the privilege of staying warm. Supporting our local community by donating to its charities can hopefully make a positive impact on someone’s comfort and well-being.
The Littlehampton & District Food Bank, which is part of the Trussell Trust, provides vital support to people in crisis, supplying food parcels, sanitary and household items, and other essentials such as warm clothes and bedding. The charity relies solely on financial contributions and donations from the general public and has a wishlist that is regularly updated to show which items are low in stock or in high demand.
Sam Gouldson, Deputy Manager of the Littlehampton & District Food Bank explains that as the cost of living crisis deepens more and more people need the foodbank, while the amount of donations is reducing. The charity has supported more than 3,000 people this year, with more than a third of those being children. The most common cause of crisis was low income and the rising cost of essentials.
She says: “[Last winter] we spent £3,640 purchasing fleece blankets for clients who couldn’t afford to use their heating, or who needed to reduce the amount they used. We’re incredibly grateful for the generous donation from Meridian Medical, which will help us to meet this continued need during the cold months ahead.”
Meridian Medical will be regularly donating to the charity by purchasing and delivering bulk items depending on what appears on the charity’s wishlist.
James adds: “As we are a healthcare company, we will regularly assist with healthcare and sanitary items, as well as other day-to day-requirements as required by the charity. Donations are especially important so please help if you can.”
